| | Nvidia Geforce 6200 256mb pci card compatable? « Thread Started on Sept 12, 2006, 4:42pm » | |
Hello, Ive played and enjoyed spacestationsim very much with my old geforce5600 video card in my dell 8300, but have recently upgraded to the 6200 geforce card. I get just past the Renderware logo on starting up the SSS. It hangs at where the vision video screen should be with a purpleish colored screen. I have uninstalled the sim and reinstalled it again with the april patch that I obtained in april. I installed the latest video drivers for Geforce cards 6/1/2006. Last month I even upgraded my sound drivers for my creative labs card. I have reinstalled direct x 9c too. Ive changed resolutions, refresh rates, and unchecked video settings in the configuration area, nothing is changing.
As a side note I installed the sim on my wifes dell xps system to see if I could play the SSS on her computer and amazingly I have to go back to a restore point two days ago cause the SSS takes out her sound
In anycase does anyone have an idea on what I could do to get this fun sim up and running again?

We will look into it on Wednesday. We had a Dell system that was crashing with the game and thought we might have had a bug. As it turned out, the audio driver was incorrect. We updated the driver and all is well. Have you tried switching to the MPEG movie files?

Our movies are WMV files because they are higher fidelity. However, some systems cannot handle the WMV format well, so we included a set of MPEG movies for these situations. In the launcher under configuration, you can check a box to disable WMVs and enable MPEGs.

Goodevening, Thankyou for your suggestion, I did disable the WMV movies and I do still get the purple blank screen where the program hangs. New news I found that Nvidia Geforce cards have new drivers as of Sept 1st, so I uninstalled the old and installed the new drivers. Unfortunately no affect, still hangs up after the renderware screen, with a blank purplish screen. I Thank you kindly for any more assistance you can provide Sincerely, Dave

I've been poking around the Internet, and it looks like a number of people have been having trouble with video playback on the GeForce 6200 and the latest drivers. From what I understand, the recommended solution is to completely uninstall the new drivers and install the ForceWare version 84.21 drivers. I have no idea if it will work, but you can give it a try. According to the date, these are a little earlier than the drivers you say you have now, so maybe the drivers you have are also affected.
If it doesn't work, well, the next upgrade will have an option to skip movies altogether. That way you can at least play the game.

David has e-mailed me and said that this driver downgrade solved his problem, and not just for SpaceStationSim but other games as well. If anyone else has a similar video playback problem with newer nVidia cards, then it's probably not a bad idea to try this too.

unpleasant,
Thanks for the information. We have seen lots of strange display issues that have all been related to driver versions and not the game.
Best Regards,
Bill
