I am running SpaceStationSim version 2.2 on Windows Vista home premium edition. After playing the game sometime during the day the computer will not shut down when I try to shut it down later. There was no problem with version 2.0, but after downloading and installing version 2.2 the problem started. Is there any way to fix this?

Spacenerd,
We will need much more information than this. Can you do a Command/Alt/Delete, click on processes (I believe that is what it is called) and write down the program that fails to quit?
I have SSS running on a laptop with Vista and do not have this issue. However, Vista is a real pain in the tail, always taking over the computer, doing unauthorized updates and slowing down for no good reason. This happens whether SSS is runninig or not.
Also, do you have iTunes running on your Vista equipped computer? If so, take it off because iTunes on PC seems pretty unstable and has a bad habit of not letting the computer shut down.
Best Regards,
Bill

Bill,
I do not see any process that is failing to quit. As for the iTunes, it is not on the computer.
Sincerely,
spacenerd

Spacenerd,
We still don't have enough information to fix what may or may not be a bug, based on what you have given us so far.
Try to get more info and a establish a procedure that causes the computer to fail to shut down every time. Without more info, we really can do much.
Best Regards,
Bill

Bill,
Sorry it took me so long to reply. I was down in Florida for the space shuttle launch. Anyway, I uninstalled SSS and reinstalled it and the computer shuts down now, but vey slowly. I have only played it once after I reinstalled it, so I don't know if the problem will come back or not.
Sincerely,
spacenerd

Spacenerd,
I'm glad your haveing success, however I still don't believe your problem is SSS. Vista is a nightmare in many ways. My laptop will just stop whatever I'm doing and go into some "hamster running on a flywheel" mode for a half hour or more and then stabilize for a while. When I turn it on the next day, it does the same silly thing all over again. I hate it really.
Best Regards,
Bill

Dear Bill,
My computer did it again!!!!!! This is starting to get annoying! One thing I forgot to mention in my previous post is when I uninstalled SSS and restarted my computer, it shut down fine even though I had played SSS.
Sincerely,
spacenerd

Spacenerd,
I suggest that next time after you run the game and quit, you press Ctrl/Alt/Delete. This will bring up the Windows Task Manager. Click on processes and then Show processes from all users. If SpaceStationSim is still running, you will see one or both of the following executable files in list, gamelauncher.exe and/or grgameengine.exe. If you do not see either of these executables running, the problem is somewhere else.
Best regards,
Bill

Bill, Sorry it took me so long to reply. I have not played Space Station Sim in a while. I followed your directions and neither gamelauncher.exe nor grgameengine.exe were there. Sincerely, spacenerd

By the way, what version of Vista do you have, Bill?

I guess that i have been lucky with Vista. Overall it has been more stable than any previous version of Windows that I have used. I have it running on three machines at home and one at work. One home machine has Ultimate SP1 32 bit, the one with SpaceStationSim loaded. The other two are running Home Premium SP1 32 bit. The one at work is running Business SP1 64 bit, dual boot with XP Pro SP2 32 bit.
Other than my previous post dealing with the SpaceStationSim movies, I have not had any problems with the game under Vista. Although I haven't played it much since upgrading to Vista SP1. It does start up and shut down properly and I have never had a problem shutting down the machine after running the game.
I did have one short period of time when I did have some stability issues, but this had more to do with the Intel 965 chipset that with Vista. I upgraded my machine from 2 gig of 667 MHz memory to 4 gig of 800 MHz memory. The machine started having all kinds of problems. The 800MHz memory ended up in my wife's machine and I now have the 4 gigs of 667 MHz memory in mine.
From my own experience and from what I have read, Vista needs stable, high performance hardware to run on, at least 2 gig of ram, plenty of processor and a good GPU. SpaceStationSim could potentially give both the CPU and GPU a little workout if you crank up its settings, although mine are maxed out with no problems. From what I have read, do a clean install of Vista, even if upgrading.
