With the Shuttle program coming to an end I have been stuck playing S.S.S.....AGAIN!!!! But it's sad cause with the I.S.S. almost done we can't add Leonardo, Rassvet, Poisk and a few others to have that feel. I can't find nothing else close to S.S.S. It would be great if someone could make mods to complete the game. Maybe crying to EA and tell them we NEED THIS COMPLETED FOR US!!! If it took a year to learn c++ I guess it would be worth it. But if anyone can help jump start this game again and make BILL and the others who gave us Space Station Sim proud...please let us know. Thanks for this game BILL. Being 38 years old this game makes me feel like a kid again. But i know it hurts us when we get the station almost done and look at it and say, "Almost done...but that's it" Thank you for reading this hope it caught a few eyes....and PROGRAMMERS.

Knight, I feel your pain. In spades. My small company was a NASA contractor, building SimCx a systems engineering and integration software solution for the Constellation Architecture Trades and Analysis group at JSC. On top of loosing $2M in sales to piracy on SpaceStationSim, I also lost $.5M in investment in that software when president Obama canceled the Constellation program. I may loose everything I have ever worked for because of NASA.

Was taken with what you just said Bill. Can't say I have lost that in money but have lost it when it came to my house and 99% of what I had over 5 years ago. But what you can't lose is what you had done and can do again. I know for myself that playing this got me back into space again. It's the Idea of what you and alot of ppl have done for so many. You made us look up at the night sky again. And with the Shuttle program out and doesn't look like anything good for some time. Why can't you take you idea and redo it the way you want it. Maybe to try and catch lighting in a bottle twice. I know money helps but knowing that you made ppl sit at their computer alot of times , play spacesim and dream of what it is like. And for me it's a honor talking to someone like you as close to NASA as you have been. But maybe Mr. Muller alot of ppl on this board can help get your dream back up and going. When that day come let us know...We'll help you launch this again. Lenny Brooks (knightvenom1973@yahoo.com)

Lenny and Spacey, You guys are very kind. However the fact is, I already know everybody who might make a difference at NASA and none of them have anything they can contribute. NASA is going down the tubes in a hurry. The new vehicle is a make work project with no real goal and no time line. The NASA MMO was a complete shame, with good people in the private sector once again like myself pouring money in with little or no support from NASA. They are now begging for donations on the internet/street like beggars with their cups in hand. If those 50-100 people a day who steal SpaceStationSim would pay a few dollars for it, we might actually be able to update it, but they are not willing to pay for what they take either. There is not much we can do. Best regards, Bill

If you had the funds, you could update it without Renderware? Time to talk to investors. 50 to 100 new users a day should prove that there's a demand.

At last year's Game Developers Conference in San Francisco I attended a talk by Constance Steinkuehler-Squire who works in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Her directive was to seek out game developers interested in creating games that address real world challenges and are based on hard science. Really, almost anything supporting STEM education. Her office would then attempt to support said developers, though the specifics seemed a little vague. ;-)
There are also a number of crowdfunding options like Kickstarter, Indie-Go-Go, etc. One project that might interest you is Shackleton Crater. It's about colonizing the Moon and the company is led by one of the founders of EA.
I was in the game industry for 17 years, and have been teaching game design at the University of Advancing Technology for the last 5 years. I've directed a few student projects that are also somewhat in the same vein. The first was Tellus: Save the Earth. It started off great, won an international competition sponsored by the Earth Observation Group of the IEEE, and then went into a prolonged period of slow and intermittent progress. Currently, I am overseeing a project concerned with the colonization of Mars that is still in the early pre-production / concept exploration phase.
There is definitely an interest for these types of games, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem large enough to gain traction with investors. I think crowdfunding may be the best option.
Best, David Wessman

David, thanks for the heads up. I am currently working at National Public Radio as an engineer as well as designing an expanded software toolkit to help brain injured children cope with noise. You can see that work here. www.easecd.com One of my big problems is that I used Renderware to build SSS. That software cost me $1M between the purchase and additional dev, and when it was bought by EA, they canceled everyone's licenses.

I just want to say this game was pretty cool when I played it a few years ago. I recently decided to see how the company was doing. Now that I have seen what the situation is, I just wanted to give you guys another option. Valve software has a program called Steam Greenlight, It has really gotten some games off the ground. Valve is always looking to put some games on its Steam distribution service. This could get some more people playing and helping to get this game to something great. I'll give you the link, think about it; steamcommunity.com/greenlight/
